ECO-ADM Enhanced Biodegradability

ECO-ADM Enhanced Biodegradability

10-17% biodegradation within 30 days

Plastics (or polymers) are made of long molecular chains of organic molecules called monomers. Polymers do not exist naturally and most are designed to be incredibly stable – as a result they do not easily biodegrade and will last in the environment for centuries and possibly forever. They are air-tight and water-tight.

ECO-ADMâ„¢ uses an organic additive that enhances the biodegradation process through a series of chemical and biological processes when disposed of in a biologically active landfill.

The additive ingredients in ECO-ADM product line allow the formation of a coating called biofilm on the plastic. The biofilm is made up of microbes which penetrate the plastic, while other ingredients expand the molecular structure making room for the microbes. Microbes send out chemical signals (a way of communicating with other microbes) attracting other microbes. Collectively, they feast on the polymer chains breaking down the chemical bonds.

The proprietary additive enhances the biodegradation of plastic into methane (can be converted to energy), carbon dioxide and inert humus (makes soil richer).

TEST RESULTS:

ECO-ADMâ„¢ contains an additive that enhances the biodegradation of plastic products in a biologically active landfill. Independent ASTM D5511 tests, representing biologically active landfills, have shown 10-17% biodegradation within 30 days.
